CVE-2011-0355

Cisco Nexus 1000V Virtual Ethernet Module (VEM) 4.0(4) SV1(1) through SV1(3b), as used in VMware ESX 4.0 and 4.1 and ESXi 4.0 and 4.1, does not properly handle dropped packets, which allows guest OS users to cause a denial of service (ESX or ESXi host OS crash) by sending an 802.1Q tagged packet over an access vEthernet port, aka Cisco Bug ID CSCtj17451.

Security Impact Summary

CVE-2011-0355 is a security vulnerability that . Impacting 3 products from cisco, from vmware, from vmware organizations running these solutions should prioritize assessment and patching.

Historical Context

Documented in 2011, this vulnerability occurred amid the cloud computing expansion era, where traditional network perimeter security models were being reevaluated. How SecUtils Interprets This CVE

SecUtils normalizes and enriches National Vulnerability Database (NVD) records by standardizing vendor and product identifiers, aggregating vulnerability metadata from both NVD and MITRE sources, and providing structured context for security teams. For cisco's affected products, we extract Common Platform Enumeration (CPE) data, Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) classifications, CVSS severity metrics, and reference data to enable rapid vulnerability prioritization and asset correlation. This record contains no exploit code, proof-of-concept instructions, or attack methodologies—only defensive intelligence necessary for patch management, risk assessment, and security operations.
